One car wrecked and two damaged in blaze

An electrical fault is thought to have started a fire which destroyed a car parked at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre, Gillingham.

Firefighters from Medway were called out to deal with the burning Vauxhall Astra at about 11.40am today, Sunday.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “The car was in the car park at the Bhs side of the centre and the flames spread to two other cars parked nearby.

“We were at the scene for about 15 minutes putting out the flames. The Astra was destroyed and the two other cars were also damaged by the fire.”
