Two Olympic champion runners will be in Folkestone to encourage youngsters into athletics.

They are Linford Christie, the only British man to win Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European 100m gold medals, and another of Britain’s most successful sprinters Darren Campbell, who won a silver medal in the Sydney Olympics in the 200m and a gold four years later as part of Britain’s relay team.

The two are backing a Street Athletics programme for young people aged under 20 which comes to the town on Sunday, July 27.

They will be at the Lidl car park, Haven Drive, Hawkinge, from 2pm-4pm, with event registration from 1pm.

The afternoon will involve young people having the chance to race against each other over 60m - cheered on by the sports stars.

All participants will receive a Street Athletics T-shirt.

The top three finishers in each age group will qualify to compete against youngsters from 13 other aeras at the Street Athletics national final in Manchester, on September 20.

It will be the Street Athletics team’s second visit to Hawkinge.
