A 19-year-old man has been fined by a court after he killed a dog while driving his off-road bike.

The dog's owner, Barry Barnard, was walking his dog in Laburnum Road recreation ground in Strood last June when the incident happened.

Steven Smith, 19, from Cedar Road, Strood, appeared before magistrates at Medway for the offence. He admitted numerous motoring offences and was fined a total of £150 fine.

Mr Barnard, from Poplar Road, Strood, said: “I hope this punishment will act as a deterrent to other people and help protect animals in the future.”
