No deals for eight at Gillingham including Adam Miller, Stuart Lewis, Tom Wynter, Luis Cumbers and Andy Pugh

Eight players from last season’s Gillingham side will be looking for new clubs this summer.

Adam Miller (pictured) and Stuart Lewis head the list of those not being offered new terms by boss Andy Hessenthaler.

Those also not returning are young defender Tom Wynter, strikers Luis Cumbers, Andy Pugh, Jacob Erskine and James Walker, along with midfielder Rashid Yussuff.

"I wasn’t able to speak to all eight of them, and some of them had already decided to move on," confirmed Hessenthaler. "But we’ve identified the ones that we want to keep."

It means Hessenthaler will look to bring in around only five new players in the close season and while some of the players already on contract at the club may not be in his starting line-up, he doesn’t feel there is a lot wrong with his squad for the challenges in League 2.

"Other than the away form last season, there wasn’t too much wrong with the home form," he said.

"These players are good enough for League 2 but I still want to add four or five players to the squad."

Hessenthaler also dismissed claims he was interested in bringing Dover defender Ollie Schulz to Priestfield.
