Gillingham will be able to name seven substitutes this season under new rules announced by the Football League.

Last season the Gills were restricted to a five-man substitute bench and could play three of those players.

"It’s a good idea," said Stimson. "It’s following on from the Premier League and it was only a matter of time before that happened.

"I’ll have more options now and I’ll be able to give a couple of the younger players some experience.

"At the end of last season I was having to leave players out and that was a horrible feeling but I’ll have more options now.

"It will be good for me to choose three subs from seven."
