BMW has announced on-the-road prices and full specification for the new 5 Series.

On sale from September 18, the new 5 Series will feature new lightweight chassis components, increased performance, ground breaking levels of technology, higher levels of standard specification and more space than the outgoing 5 Series.

The three launch models will be joined in October by the 192 bhp 525i SE (£26,955.00) featuring the 2.5-litre International Engine of the Year, and the range-topping 333 bhp 545i SE (£41,555.00), at which time the 520i SE automatic and a Sequential Manual Gearbox for the 530i SE and 545i SE will also debut.

Not only does the new car cost less to service than its predecessor, customers can also specify the option of Service and Maintenance Inclusive (SMI). The five year/60,000 mile Europe-wide pack, priced at £750, offers drivers convenience and peace of mind while travelling in the UK and abroad. SMI covers all servicing requirements alongside brake and clutch replacement if necessary, in any BMW dealership throughout the EU, and is expected to extend to other models in the future.

All three launch cars feature six-cylinder engines and a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. The BMW 520i SE produces 170 bhp and a maximum torque of 210 Nm with the 530i SE boasting 231 bhp and 3C0 Nm of torque.

The 530d SE is powered by BMW’s new 218 bhp second-generation common rail diesel engine generating an impressive 500 Nm of torque, incidentally the same torque figure as the current high-performance BMW M5.

A six-speed automatic gearbox is an option on the 530i SE and 530d SE models, priced at £1,350.00.

All 5 Series models feature automatic air conditioning, part-electric seats and a revised BMW iDrive controller and colour screen.

The new iDrive concept features an improved colour-coded display and the system now allows the owner to pre-programme many of the car’s comfort systems, with a default Menu button aiding navigation around the system. The 53& SE and 530d SE also benefit from BMW’s unique Park Distance Control.
