Mystic Mog making his
prediction for England's Euro 2012 tie with Italy

by Alex Claridge

Mystic Mog has forecast the result England fans did not want to
hear - a victory for Italy in the Euro 2012 quarter-final.

Leon the pedigree Tonkinese cat, from Canterbury, who has so far
correctly predicted eight of nine results, reckons they will beat
Roy Hodgson's men in Kiev tonight.

This week has already seen him correctly call the outcomes of
England's win over the Ukraine on Tuesday and Thursday's
quarter-final, which saw Portugal beat the Czechs 1-0 thanks to a
goal from Ronaldo.

And owner Ted Phillips, of Upper Chantry Lane, suspects
two-year-old Leon might be proved right again.

"The cat says Italy and I would hazard a guess that he will be
correct," the 45-year-old said.

"It is, however, the first time he has gone against England. He
got the draw against France in the first group game right and then
predicted the wins over Sweden and the Ukraine.

"Although we're in the quarter-finals, we're not that great and
Italy always do well in the big tournaments."

Leon picks the result by choosing from a bowl with cat food
marked with possible outcomes.

Whichever he eats first, Ted makes a £5 bet.

What started as a joke after a few beers between Ted and a
friend when they could not decide who to bet on now sees them more
than £100 up.

So far Leon has only failed once, wrongly predicting a draw
between Germany and Holland when Germany went on to win the
match.

Among those dressing up to show the bulldog spirit
ahead of England's quarter final match is a family pet.

Princess Tia, a seven-year-old British bulldog from Kennington
in Ashford, donned the national colours ahead of the big game.

She will be cheering on the Three Lions and waving St George
flags with her owners Karen Chamberlain and Peter Dowling.

Ms Chamberlain, who has six bulldogs, said: "They will all be
dressed up to watch it. We're not sure if we’ll be watching it at
the local or at home yet. We lost the last time we watched it at
the pub."

Her prediction is a 3-1 win to England.

The match kicks off at Kiev’s Olympic Stadium at 7.45pm.
