Mystery donor boosts air ambulance fund

AN ANONYMOUS donor has sent £800 in cash through the post to the Kent Air Ambulance Trust. The gift, all in £20 notes, was wrapped in a piece of paper.

An accompaning note said: "This money is to help keep the air ambulance working - good luck." Surprised staff working in the mailroom of the trust's base at Marden checked the brown paper package in which the money had arrived for the post mark but it was completely smudged.

The trust's chief executive Kate Chivers said: "There is no clue to the identity of this generous person. We hope they will see this article and know that their gift is greatly appreciated and will help to maintain our vital air ambulance service for the county."

The cash, will help offset the £1.5 million-plus it costs to keep the Kent Air Ambulance flying each year. This is not the first time the trust has received an anonymous donation.

Some two years ago, £200 in cash was dropped off each day for three days at the trust's base in the Wheelbarrow Park Estate, Pattenden Lane, Marden. On each occasion, the money was wrapped in newspaper.

On another occasion, a large quantity of cash was picked up by a taxi driver with instructions to drop it off at a funeral director's premises from where it was forwarded on to the trust.
