Myles Weston misses the trip to Morecambe but boss Martin Allen hails the impact of former QPR striker Antonio German

Myles Weston’s ankle injury will keep him out of this weekend’s game at Morecambe.

Gills boss Martin Allen revealed on Thursday that it is still too soon for the front-man to return.

Weston (pictured) had missed the last three Gillingham games through injury and won’t be rushed back.

Allen said: “Myles won’t be fit. He has stepped up his training a little bit and we do need him because he is a good player.

“He will need a few days training to make sure his ankle is secure and there is no reaction and then we can step it up.”

Weston’s pace has been a key ingredient for the Gills this season but his absence has been mitigated by the arrival of on-loan Brentford forward Antonio German.

And it was from Weston’s recommendation that prompted Allen to make a move for the former QPR man.

“Myles is chuffed to bits that German has done well because he is the one who recommended him,” said Allen, who had also seen the player during his youth days at QPR.

“When he scored on Saturday I looked around and Myles had the biggest grin in Priestfield.

“He has been a good scout for us but we want him back on the pitch.”

Allen had been impressed with German’s contribution so far, praising his attitude on and off the pitch.

The Gills boss said: “He wanted a chance and he’s slept at my house and he sleeps wherever he can. He is young and hungry and is a pleasure to have at the training ground.

“He has been a breath of fresh air and when he came here he didn’t ask for anything. He just wants the play and I love that about him. All he cares about is training and playing.”

German (right) had to drop down the leagues following his release from QPR but Allen believes he has the talent to fight his way back up.

“I shout at him and I’m on at him all the time,” said Allen. “It’s tough love but he could go all the way to the top.

“There is no point being average and just doing enough. We don’t want that at Gillingham.

“Last Tuesday all the staff were in at 6.30am, some even before that, and everyone was in for eight to be on that bus to Exeter. That’s why we are top of the league. There are no lightweights here.”
