VICTIM: Jade Hart
VICTIM: Jade Hart

THE mother of murdered Kent toddler Jade Hart has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for child neglect.

Sarah Hart, 19, of Royal Road, Ramsgate, was charged after her daughter died at the hands of sadistic Ross Hammond, 23, in Ramsgate on July 31. Jade suffered 117 horrific injuries when left in Hammond’s care while Hart was out shopping.

Although she was not directly involved with her daughter’s assault, Hart did not call an ambulance for several hours after returning home and finding the baby floppy and lifeless.

The baby was taken to the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate, but died later that day.

Hammond was sentenced to life by Middlesex Crown Court last month.

Hart had begun seeing Hammond, an ex-boyfriend for her schooldays, just weeks before Jade died.
