JOHN KIPRECH MAGERER: his killers are still at large

THE widow of a former Kent man murdered in Nairobi has spoken of her loss. John Kiprech Magerer, 37, was shot in the head by robbers.

Mr Kiprech, known as Kip, moved with his wife Helen from Lordswood, Chatham, to Kenya four years ago to help with Christian Aid projects.

His widow said: "He was such an outgoing and friendly type who just loved life. He had such a positive outlook on life and he didn't like to think about the bad side of people.

"He was a happy go lucky man who was always happy to help and was very understanding."

Kip had been out drinking with his two brothers in the early hours of November 4 when he was caught up in a robbery.

Two armed robbers pounced on the trio as they left a pub and shot Kip before making off with his mobile phone, watch and a small amount of cash.

His brothers, who witnessed the attack but escaped unscathed, took him to the Nairobi Hospital where he died six days later.

To add to his widow's grief, both she and her mother were mugged during Kip's funeral on November 17 and had their bags stolen.

Helen said: "I lost some very important documents including the burial permit, Filofax, Kip's passport, plus my purse and phone. The thief also managed to get about £400 from my UK accounts before the bank-cards were stopped."

No one has been convicted over the thefts and the two men responsible for the killing are still at large. Helen added: "The police say they are following up a number of leads but we have not heard from them for a while."

She plans to continue to live in Kenya and carry on with her charity work but doctors have advised her to take a break.
