Murder: Did gunman lie in wait at victim's home?

THE killer of a 31-year-old businessman who died after being shot in the early hours of March 1 may have been laying in wait at his house, police have revealed.

The victim - who has been named as David John O'Leary - was gunned down at his luxury home in the quiet hamlet of Lydden, near Margate after a night out.

Police were alerted to the shooting at Valley Road at around 2.45am. Mr O'Leary was found dead when officers arrived at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "A number of different lines of enquiry are being followed up, including the possibility that someone was waiting in Mr O'Leary's home when he returned after a night out.

"Extensive enquiries, including house-to-house, have been carried out over the weekend but officers are still keen to hear from anyone with information.

"Neighbourhood policing teams are patrolling the area. Anyone with concerns can talk to those officers but it is not believed there is any risk to the public.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Major Crime Incident Room on 01303 289600 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
