A teenage mum alleged to have put a pillow over her baby's face has been cleared of attempted murder.

The 18-year-old put her head in her hands with relief and quickly left the dock following a jury's unanimous not guilty verdict, delivered after just two hours.

Judge Philip Statman told the panel of eight women and four men: "May I be permitted to say it is a verdict with which I totally agree."

Maidstone Crown Court heard the mother, from Sevenoaks, had been suffering from post-natal depression and had been having trouble bonding with her five-week-old child.
