A driver was given emergency first aid this afternoon after his car struck an unmarked police car and overturned on the M20 motorway.

The police officer had parked in order to help a family who had broken down on the london-bound carriageway, at junction 7 near Grove Green, Maidstone, just before 1.30pm, when a second vehicle ploughed into his car.

The officer then gave first aid to the driver while waiting for ambulance crews to arrive.

The london-bound carriageway was closed from junction 8 to allow emergency services to access the scene and deal with the situation.

The family who had initially broken down were not injured, having retreated behind a barrier at the time of the accident.
