Police investigating the death of a pedestrian hope to reopen the M20 between Ashford and Hythe this morning.

The coast-bound carriageway has been closed all night after the pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and died.

The accident happened about 8.20pm on Sunday just south of junction 10.

The carriageway was closed to junction 11 for Hythe and traffic diverted on to the A20.

Ch Insp Darren Mullins said: "Investigations are continuing into the circumstances of the collision.

"We are appealing for anyone who was on the motorway on Sunday night and may have seen anything to contact us."

Two lanes of the London-bound carriageway on the M20 were closed at junction 11 this morning after an accident involving a van.

Witnesses should call the police serious collision unit on 01622 798 538.
