Motorist hurt in road rage attack

A driver needed hospital treatment after a motorway road rage incident last weekend.

The incident happened at about 9.40am last Saturday the M2 close to junction four at Gillingham.

The 40-year-old motorist was driving in his car, a burgundy Volvo salon on the London-bound carriageway when a white van behind him began to repeatedly flash its lights.

He slowed down thinking there was a problem but it only provoked the van to slam into the back of his car.

Both vehicles then pulled over to the hard shoulder where the van driver then pushed and assaulted the man, before getting back behind the wheel and driving away.

The Volvo driver had to go to hospital for treatment.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident and have issued a description of the van driver.

He is said to be about 5ft 10in was wearing jeans and a blue t-shirt and trainers.

Investigating officer PC Tony Lewis, said: “This was a mindless assault and the victim is lucky not to have more severe injuries.

“It was a busy Saturday morning and there would have been many cars on the road when the incident took place.

“I believe that there will be further witnesses to this incident and ask that they contact us with any information they have.”
