A motorist has died after collapsing at the wheel of his car at the Westwood Cross shopping centre.

The man, thought to be in his 60s, was driving an estate car that was involved in a slow-speed collision with a parked car yesterday.

Passers-by helped the driver from the car at about 9.45am and he was taken to the QEQM Hospital, in Margate, where he later died.

Police cordoned off an area of the car park at the shopping centre, near Margate, as an investigation was carried out.

A Kent Police spokeswoman said: "We believe the man was taken unwell as he was driving.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the accident and a post mortem examination will be held to establish the cause of death."

Anyone who saw the accident is asked to phone the Kent Police serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
