Tickets for a global sporting event being staged in Medway went on sale this week.

To celebrate the sale of tickets for April’s Modern Pentathlon World Cup, top executives from Pentathlon GB joined Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services, Cllr. Howard Doe on Monday.

They were accompanied by athletes representing the five sports that make up the event – fencing, swimming, riding, running and shooting.

The Modern Pentathlon World Cup will take place at Medway Park and will feature more than 200 of the world's leading pentathletes.

Cllr Doe said: "This is an opportunity for the people of Medway to see Olympic and world champions competing in their home town at our new centre of sporting excellence, and I'm sure the athletes will enjoy a very warm Medway welcome when they arrive for the competition in April."

The World Cup is part of a global series of competitions to find the leading male and female pentathlete for the year.

The competition takes place over four days, from Thursday, 8 to Sunday, 11 April, with the main focus on the finals weekend.

The men will do battle on Saturday, 10 April and the women on Sunday, 11 April, with Olympic silver medalist Heather Fell leading the Great Britain challenge.

Pentathlon GB Chief Executive Peter Hart, who was joined by Event Director Rosie Julian for the launch event, said: "All of us from Pentathlon GB, the athletes, officials and volunteers are looking forward to the World Cup Event at Medway.

"The welcome, support and enthusiasm we have received in the build up to the event from the officials and community of Medway has been first class. I know that the world Modern Pentathlon community is looking forward to the high class event and world class facilities at Medway Park."

Tickets for the finals weekend cost £8 and £5 for a full day (five-event) ticket and £5 and £3 for a half day (three-event) ticket.
