Mercy flight to disaster zone

THE latest mercy flight to take vital aid to refugees in the Sudan left Kent International Airport at Manston on Sunday.

The flight to Darfur was due to take off on Friday but was delayed. It carried water and sanitation equipment worth £83,000 including pipes, tanks and buckets.

What donations will buy: £15 will provide a family with plastic sheeting, a water container, and purification tablets: £44 will feed a family of five for two months; £84 will buy two household kits, including a mosquito net, blanket and kitchen utensils.

Charities benefiting from the DEC appeal are British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International UK, Christian Aid, Concern, Help the Aged, Merlin, Oxfam, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision.

Anyone wishing to make a donation is asked to call 0870 60 60 900 or visit the DEC website at www.dec.org.uk or send a cheque/postal order made payable to DEC Sudan Emergency, PO Box 999, London EC3.
