Two Kent men have been remanded in custody for their alleged part in one of Ireland's largest drug seizures.

John Gary Edmey, 57, of East Hill, South Darenth, and Alan Roger Wells, 55, of Blenheim Rd, Sidcup, appeared at Highbury magistrates court on Friday.

They are charged together with a former Metropolitan Police officer.

Ex-detective Sergeant Michael Daly is accused of conspiracy to supply more than 1,500 kilos of cocaine.

The haul, which had an estimated street value of almost £350 million, was seized in July 2007.

The Kent men are due to appear at Blackfriars Crown Court or the Old Bailey on August 11.
