TONBRIDGE and Malling MP Sir John Stanley is due to attend a public meeting at The Curran Hall, East Peckham, on Thursday, April 1, at 8pm at which Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council will present proposals for preventing future flooding in the village.

During the autumn of 2000 many local properties were inundated when the River Medway burst its banks and some people were forced to leave their homes until the flood water receded.

The crisis led to a steering committee being formed to look into the causes of the flooding and to investigate ways of defending the area against any recurrence.

Thursday's meeting, open to all, aims to explain the group's findings and ideas to villagers.
