There's another warning to be careful when you buy toys this Christmas after Trading Standards seized almost 40 fake Thomas the Tank Engine and Roary, The Racing Car toys from a trader.

Officers said they could easily be confused with genuine versions by parents and grandparents out buying presents this week.

Samples of the toys have now been sent off for testing to make sure they comply with the requirements of Toy Safety Regulations and the case is being investigated.

Selling goods featuring the unauthorised use of a registered trademark has a maximum penalty of ten years imprisonment or an unlimited fine.

Cllr Mike O'Brien, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety and Customer Contact, said: "It is important that Medway shoppers are confident about the goods they buy in our shops and our Trading Standards team are working hard to ensure that they are protected from any unlawful goods."

Traders are encouraged to seek guidance from their local Trading Standards service if they are offered any cheap branded goods.

Any parents who are concerned about toys they have purchased can contact the service for further advice on 08454 040506.

Earlier this month, thousands of dangerous toys were also seized at the Port of Dover.
