McDonald's eyeing up mid-May reopening date after month of closures for coronavirus

McDonald's is planning to reopen some of its fast food restaurants in a matter of weeks, according to reports.

The global chain, which closed all of its branches more than a month ago, is aiming to bring part of its sprawling network of outlets back into life from mid-May.

The Irish Farmers Journal reports plans to reopen restaurants in July have been significantly redrafted.

The process will be staggered, with food available via either delivery or from drive-thrus.

McDonald's had originally hoped to keep its takeaway services running when the coronavirus crisis first reached UK shores.

However, the decision to completely close all outlets was soon taken and they have remained shut ever since.

There were huge queues at McDonald's restaurants in Kent when the impending closures were announced.
