Mark Bentley returned to Gillingham on Monday after his loan deal at Cambridge United expired.

The midfielder (pictured) played six games during his month-long loan, finishing with Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Cambridge had not been in contact about extending the loan before the weekend and Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler is keen for as many players to be around his promotion-chasing squad as possible.

He said: "We will have a conversation and I really need to see what Mark is thinking. I need to think about it as a club because we need everyone available.

"Mark wants to play but we will wait and see and on Monday when he will be back in with us."
