Mark Bentley has signalled his intention to return to Gillingham next season and help the club bounce straight back into League 1.

The midfielder (pictured) has spent the last four seasons at Priestfield and is one of five out-of-contract players mulling over a new
deal.

Bentley, 32, was offered fresh terms on Tuesday and was keen to speak with chairman Paul Scally to thrash out one or two minor issues.

He said: "I want to stay at the club and there are just a few tweaks that need doing before I agree a deal.

"I’ve played 170 games for the club and I feel like I’ve been a good servant down the years.

"I’ve got a big determination to help get the club back into League 1.

"We’re not far apart (on a deal) and hopefully we can come to an agreement."

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler is waiting to hear back from Bentley, Barry Fuller, Dennis Oli, Garry Richards and Simon Royce after offering them all new deals for next season.
