Margate’s 2008 PDC World Championship runner-up Kirk Shepherd, pictured, got revenge on his conqueror John Part with a 4-1 win in the second round of this year’s event at Alexandra Palace.

Shepherd, 23, who lost the 2008 final 7-2 to the Canadian, stunned the three-times world champion with a comprehensive victory and will now play Denbigh’s Mark Webster, another former world champion, for a place in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Shepherd took control when he broke in the third leg and hit double four to clinch the first set, and though Part rallied in the second that was as good as it got for the No.4 seed, with the Kent man re-taking the lead after closing out set three in the fourth leg with double 16.

He made it 3-1 with a double eight in the fourth leg and clinched the match with a 3-2 win in the fifth, again with a double eight.
