A day-long music extravaganza at the King Edward VII pub in Margate raised nearly £2,000 for armed forces charity Help for Heroes.

Licensee Lindsey Simmons organised the event, which featured 13 bands including The Suspects, Breed, All Fall Down, Da Mushrooms and Hunkertron.

Former serviceman Adrian Stembridge, who is a pub regular, took part in a sponsored 12-mile run on the same day, starting and finishing at the pub, while staff donated their shift wages to the charity.

Lindsey said: "The bands were fantastic for giving up their time and performing for free, and the customers had a great day.

"Collection buckets were quickly filled and we held a raffle with prizes including a Harley Davidson jacket, a Scalextric set donated by Hornby Hobbies, and merchandise contributed by Shepherd Neame.

"The music was organised by Jez Silcock from The Suspects. He did a great job pulling it all together.""

The day's total will be passed onto Help for Heroes fund raiser Leigh Kedwell from Folkestone who is taking part in the 350-mile Big Battlefield bike ride from HMS Victory across northern France to Paris at the end of May.

Help for Heroes was founded in 2007 to raise money to support wounded servicemen and women, and since then has raised over £1million a month.
