Manhunt launched after shooting horror

DETECTIVES have launched a manhunt following a daylight shooting in Swanley on Saturday.

The 39-year-old victim, who is of Dutch origin, had only arrived in the country the day before. He has been named as Pieter Versluis from Slieddrecht in the Netherlands.

Mr Versluis was blasted twice in the face with a shotgun during the incident which happened close to the Deja Vu nightclub in London Road at around 1.30pm.

The victim was discovered by passers-by and taken to the Queen Mary's Hospital at Sidcup where he underwent emergency treatment for his injuries. He was said to be in a stable but critical condition.

Det Supt Martyn Henneker launched the hunt for the gunman at a press conference at Dartford police station. He said he was "keeping an open mind" about the shooting which is being treated as an attempted murder and is not being linked to any other incidents.

He said: "We are appealing to eyewitness to come forward with information which can assist the police." Anyone who can help is asked to call the incident room on 01322 228313.
