Man walks free from lorry smash

A 23-year-old motorist has escaped serious injury after a motorway crash with a lorry destroying the front of his car.

The accident happened on Tuesday morning just after 6am on the M2 coastbound, at junctions two and three.

He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, with facial injuries.

Crews from Strood and Medway fire stations arrived, expecting to cut the man free but he had already escaped his wrecked Vauxhall Corsa.

The collision involved the lorry driving over the front end of the Corsa.

Police partly closed the motorway to allow fire crews to clear debris and spilt fuel.

There was further rush hour chaos elsewhere on the M2 when three cars and a van were involved in an accident near Brenley Corner, Faversham.

The accident happened on the London-bound carriageway at 7.18am and one man had to be taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by ambulance.

The road was cleared by 9.10am.
