Man undergoing surgery after Kent shooting incident

Police are still waiting to question a 32-year-old man, known locally as Tomas Uptas, who is undergoing further surgery after being shot in the arm by police in Canterbury.

Hours after the incident in Morrisons supermarket on Thursday night, the body of a woman believed to be Loretta Ralipys, from Lithuania, was found at the Ambassador Guest House in Victoria Road .

The pair were known to each other.

The results of a post-mortem have not yet been released.

Kent Police have identified 20 'significant’ witnesses whom they are interviewing about the shooting incident in Morrisons.

Officers are also examining CCTV footage from a number of places around the city.

The man currently in custody and believed to be a fruit packer also from Lithuania is unlikely to be questioned by detectives until Wednesday (December 2) at the earliest.

Leaflets in Lithuanian and Polish, calling for information about the incidents, are to be handed out to members of the public.
