Man trapped as mail delivery van hits telegraph pole

A driver was trapped for an hour by his legs after his van hit a telegraph pole.

The Royal Mail delivery van crashed shortly after 6.30 this morning at Cranbrook Road, Fosten Green, Biddenden.

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut the victim free and he was taken by ambulance to Ashford’s William Harvy Hospital.

South Kent Police spokesman Rosy Alexander said: "The victim had been trapped behind his steering wheel and he suffered leg injuries.

"But he was found to have non-life threatening injuries."

Two fire engines, from the Tenterden and Cranbrook retained stations were called and police re-opened the road just before 8am.
