A MAN had to be talked down by police when he climbed on to a bridge and threatened to jump into the path of oncoming traffic.

The drama unfolded when the man climbed on to the viaduct on New Road in Chatham.

He stood on a pillar until officers managed to persuade him to come down.

The man was taken away in a police van less than 20 minutes after he climbed up.
