Man starts fire in supermarket aisle

DETECTIVES investigating a fire in one of the aisles of a supermarket are trying to trace a man who was seen acting suspiciously just before it started.

The incident happened at the Asda store at Greenhithe, near Dartford. Firefighters were called to the scene but members of staff extinguished the blaze before they arrived.

The man police wish to question is white and thought to be aged between 28 and 33. He is about 5ft 8in tall with dark brown, copped hair. He was wearing a brown Parka style jacket with a fur hood, a dark jumper and a dark shirt.

Det Sgt Andy Lambert said: "We are viewing CCTV footage from the store to try to identify the offender."

Police say the incident occurred last on Wednesday night between 6.20pm and 7pm. Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Lambert at North Kent Police on 01474 565167 quoting reference 328/06.
