A man's in hospital with serious stab wounds after a car is said to have deliberately crashed into him early this morning.

The 66-year-old was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford after he was stabbed to the stomach at around 6.35am today.

It's believed a car had earlier crashed into his in what is said to be a deliberate act.

Now a 61-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident, near the King's Head pub in Wincheap, Canterbury, and is in police custody.

The two men are said to know each other.

Mike Longley, landlord at the Kings Head, said: “I was awoken when I heard a bang and the sound of glass crashing.

“It was quite shocking, not something you would expect to see that early in the morning looking out of the window.

“The police have been round and spoken to businesses and asked us if we have any CCTV to study.

Jim Harlow, 67, of Hollow Lane, said: “I was reading the paper when I heard a loud bang.

"It sounded like a crash, I said to my partner 'There’s been an accident around here.' "

The A28 at Wincheap is closed at either end of the industrial estate in both directions.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours and a diversion is in place while police continue their investigation.
