Man recovers in hospital after Strood crash

A man is recovering in hospital after being hit by a car in Strood on Thursday afternoon.

It is believed the man hit the windscreen of the vehicle in North Street.

Police closed the road ater the crash, which happened at about 3.20pm close to St Mary's Road and Gun Lane.

The man, who has not been named, was said to have suffered head and leg injuries, which were at first said to be potentially life-threatening.

However, when he was assessed by doctors at Medway Maritime Hospital at about 5pm, his injuries were no longer thought to he so serious.

One man who was working nearby at the time of the crash, but did not want to be named, said: "It must be quite a serious crash because they closed the road."

Traffic built up in the area and police were advising motorists to find alternative routes while they dealt with the incident and diverted traffic.

The road was closed for several hours while the crash scene was investigated, before being re-opened at about 7.50pm.
