Man on bicycle assaults schoolgirls

POLICE are investigating after two teenage girls were indecently assaulted outside a school.

The girls, both pupils at Chatham Grammar School for Girls, reported to teachers that the man, who was riding a bicycle, had approached them and carried out the indecent assaults. Head teacher David Gundry called in the police.

One parent said: "The man has been seen on several occasions and has touched two girls. It is very worrying. The school has written to all parents and I will be picking my daughter up every night from now on."

Mr Gundry declined to comment on the incident but a spokesman confirmed that police had been called in to deal with the incident.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: "Two pupils at the school have been approached by the man and we have stepped up patrols in the area and our investigations are continuing."

A spokesman for the education authority said: "We take the safety and welfare of all pupils extremely seriously. We have contacted all Medway schools with an alert system known as stranger danger."
