A MAN who caused a disabled man horrendous injuries in an unprovoked attack has been locked up indefinitely.

Branding Anthony White a "massive danger", a judge said he would not be considered for parole until he had served five-and-a-half years.

White had told police that his motive for kicking and stamping on vulnerable Keith Raines, causing brain damage in a drunken rage, was he believed he was a child molester.

Alan Kent, prosecuting, said there was nothing to suggest Mr Raines was a child molester.

Before imposing the sentence for public protection, Judge Michael Lawson, QC, told 34-year-old White: "You reduced him from a man who was able to look after himself to a great extent, despite his disabilities, to a person who will never ever live independently again."

Maidstone Crown Court heard that Mr Raines, 54, lived alone in Lobelia Close, Gillingham. Mr Kent said the father-of-two had suffered two strokes, leaving him with speech difficulties and loss of the use of limbs.

On September 17 last year, neighbour Jean Ovenden heard a noise coming from the victim's home. She found Mr Raines lying unconscious and covered in blood in the ransacked lounge.

Later, an officer guarding the house saw White staggering towards him. He was wearing distinctive trainers stained with blood, the tread of which was found imprinted on Mr Raines's face.

White, who also lived in Lobelia Close, admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
