A 21-year-old man has been jailed for 33 months after a drink-fuelled attack.

Lee Austin was left with facial injuries needing seven stitches to a cut above his left eye after being glassed by Yusuf Gordon at the River Bar at Barker Road, Maidstone, in April last year.

After pleading guilty to wounding with intent, Gordon, of Stirling Close, Rochester, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court.

A witness to the attack, Adam French, was earlier praised by Judge David Mitchell for his actions in following Gordon out of the bar and giving police information which led to the accused’s arrest. He was recommended for a commendation and £400 High Sheriff’s award.

Gordon had previous convictions but his lawyer, Thomas Allen, said he had shown regret and remorse for what happened and had been using his time in custody positively.

“He has shown the ability to work long-term and is looking after his partner and young son,” said Mr Allen.

He said Gordon did not pose a general risk of violence to the public and asked for the shortest possible sentence.
