A man was injured when he tried to smother flames when a fire broke out in a kitchen.

The occupant of a property in Broadstairs was treated by an ambulance crew after tackling the blaze last night.

Two fire crews were called to Camden Road at about 6.20pm.

A blaze had broken out in an unattended hob, causing heavy damage to the kitchen and leaving the rest of the ground floor smoke damaged.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus spent half-an-hour dealing with the fire and used a fan to clear smoke.

The man was treated at the scene by a South East Coast Ambulance crew.
