A driver was hit in the face with a "heavy object" before carjackers stole his vehicle and later led police on a chase.

The thieves left their victim needing hospital treatment for face injuries... before speeding off and reversing straight into a Nissan Pixo and a police car.

Kent Police are now appealing for witnesses following the robbery in Gravesend on Sunday.

Officers were called at about 5.45pm to Valley Drive after a blue Lexus IS200 was reported to have been stolen.

The owner of the vehicle had stopped at the traffic lights when he was approached by two men.

It is alleged the driver was struck in the face with what has been reported as a heavy object before the two men escaped in the car.

The victim was taken to Darent Valley Hospital, where he was treated for face injuries.

Later that evening, at about 7.15pm, the stolen Lexus was seen by an unmarked police patrol on the High Street, in Northfleet.

In an attempt to get away, the driver of the stolen vehicle began reversing at speed before hitting a grey Nissan Pixo and then the police vehicle.

The driver of the Pixo and her passenger suffered whiplash injuries and were taken to Darent Valley Hospital.

The offenders managed to run away and police have now released descriptions.

The first man is described as white, believed to be about 25, medium build with short black hair and was wearing a dark blue jacket.

The second man was white, also about 25, of medium build with brown cropped hair and was wearing a white shirt.
