Police have launched an operation to combat rural crime

The four men arrested following a brawl outside a pub in the early hours of yesterday morning have been released on bail.

Police were called to deal with the disturbance at 12.40am yesterday, outside the Queen's Inn in Rye Road, Hawkhurst.

At one point two men were struck by by a car, with a 41-year-old man takento the Kent and sussex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells with leg injuries.

He suffered multiple fractures and his condition is described as serious but stable today. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The other man, 22, suffered minor injuries.

Detective Inspector Jon Armory said: "We are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact us. We would like to hear from anybody who was drinking at the Queen's Inn on Friday evening as well as anyone who may have witnessed the incident that took place outside the pub. They can contact our investigation team on 01732 379147."

Two 24-year-old men, a 40-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, all from East Sussex, are now all on bail until next month.
