Man dies in leap onto railway line

A MAN was killed after jumping onto a railway line on Sunday.

Police say the victim had jumped down an embankment and onto the track at the Luton Arches near the tunnel going under the Great Lines at Chatham.

Kent Police Insp Ian Depledge said yesterday afternoon: "This has been a tragic incident.

"We know little about the victim at this stage except that he was a 23-year-old with mental health issues."

The tragedy happened around 3.15pm and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause of death was not yet known.

Kent and British Transport Police officers were still at the scene late on Sunday afternoon continuing their inquiries.
