Tributes have been paid to a man who died in a crash.

Ernie Bailey, 61, was driving a van, which left the road and hit a tree. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved.

Tributes have been paid on our website. Mike wrote: "I knew the man for years and had the pleasure of working closely with him.

"A genuinely lovely man. Rest in peace Ern, I will miss you."

Dean wrote: "RIP Ernie. You will be missed by me and all at B/W."

The incident happened on Loose Road, Maidstone, at 12.15pm on Friday, October 7. Mr Bailey came from the Gravesend area.

One driver, who had been following the van prior to the crash, said it had indicated and pulled off the road before the collision, which he did not witness directly.

The road was closed for a time between Armstrong Road and Sheals Crescent while emergency services, including the Kent Air Ambulance, attended the scene. It had reopened by 3pm.
