A mechanic has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was crushed by a car he was working on.

A spokesman for Kent Police said the man was working on the vehicle in the garden of a house in Margate Road, Ramsgate, when it fell on top of him.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 9.15am.

The Kent Air Ambulance was also launched but was not required.

Road closures along part of the Margate Road - put in place to allow the helicopter to land - have since been lifted.

The injured man, who is in his 40s, was taken by ambulance to the nearby Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate, for treatment.

He is understood to have suffered several broken bones and crush injuries but is not thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
