Man arrested over supermarket robbery

A man has been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery at a supermarket in Medway.

The 22-year-old was arrested after the incident, at the Co-op store in Borstal Street, Borstal, Rochester, on Thursday afternoon

About 5pm a man when a man entered the store and attempted to steal a quantity of cash, but fled empty-handed.

The store has been raided several times in the past. A Co-op spokesman said a security guard would now be employed at the store.

A spokeswoman for The Co-operative said: “Just after 5pm on December 11, a man entered the Co-operative store in Borstal Street and attempted to steal a quantity of cash. His bid was unsuccessful.

“The staff were shaken but unhurt. CCTV film of the incident has been given to the police who are investigating.

"As with any incident such as this, The Co-operative is reviewing security measures in conjunction with the police, which will include employing a security guard.”
