A young Latvian man is facing a life sentence for killing his wife.

Agris Titans, of Cecil Road, Rochester, pleaded guilty today to murdering 22-year-old Edite Titane.

Her body was found at their home on the morning of August 1 by her sister.

Edite, pictured left, had been strangled.

A large-scale manhunt was launched by Kent Police and Titans was found more than 30 hours later walking along Rochester High Street.

Titans, 25, who has a daughter aged three from the marriage, admitted the offence on what would have been the first day of his trial. He will be sentenced tomorrow morning.

Judge Jeremy Carey told Titans through an interpreter at Maidstone Crown Court: "You have pleaded guilty to an offence which is about the most serious in the criminal calendar and you will be sentenced to life imprisonment tomorrow.

"I shall decide tomorrow what the appropriate minimum sentence is."

Titans was remanded in custody ahead of tomorrow's hearing.
