A man has been remanded in custody after allegedly breaching his anti-begging Asbo six times.

David Bateman, 36, is charged with six counts of breaching the anti-social behaviour order as well as an offence of shoplifting.

Bateman, pictured left, and of Palmerston Road, Chatham, was given his four-year Asbo in September 2009.

It bans him from begging anywhere in England and Wales.

He has allegedly breached the order once in November, three times in December and twice in January.

Bateman was also charged over an alleged shoplifting offence at the Co-op, in Albert Road, Chatham, in January.

He was remanded in custody when he appeared before Medway magistrates via virtual court link.

Bateman will next appear at Medway Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, March 9.
