M-80

FAST-RISING Kent rock act M-80 have released their debut single at Virgin Megastore at Bluewater in Dartford.

The distinctive five-piece group are chasing their first record deal and have been attracting interest from major record labels including EMI and Parlophone.

Lead singer Matt Harvey enthused about the launch of their five-track EP, which mixes laid-back acoustic guitars with male/female vocals.

He appeared optimistic after well-received gigs at the Tap n' Tin in Chatham and Red Lion in Northfleet.

"We're just tipping the snowball over the hill at the moment," said Matt.

"I work at the record store at Bluewater which is how the launch came about, but It is an unusual thing for them to stock a single for an unsigned band. They have done it as they know that there is interest in our group."

The 23-year-old from Orpington explained the band came together after they completed their degrees and are serious about forging a career out of it .

"I went to University in Manchester and did a degree in management, so I should be an accountant.

"But I just thought that I did not want to be sitting in an office when I am 35 thinking if only I had a go at the music.

"We definitely want to make this a career, though we do have a laugh with it."
