Commuters faced delays this morning after a lorry hit a railway bridge.

The lorry struck a bridge near West Malling causing disruption to the Southeastern's railway service between Ashford International and London Victoria.

Network Rail inspectors are at the scene.

The 8.26am train will no longer stop at Ashford International, Charing, Lenham, Harrietsham, Hollingbourne or Bearsted.

It is due to start from Maidstone East at 8.55am. The 6.40am service left 50 minutes late.

This is the second time in a week that a lorry has hit a railway bridge in the West Malling area.

A spokesman for Southeastern said: "As far as we are aware, there is no immediate problem with lorries passing through railway bridges in this area, but every incident is investigated and if we found that the issue is becoming more frequent then it is something we would discuss with Kent Highways."
