Lorry driver arrested for drink driving

A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after allegedly driving

his HGV the wrong way along the A249.

A member of the public contacted police at around 2.30am today to report

seeing the lorry being driven the wrong way towards the Stockbury

roundabout.

Patrols quickly attended and stopped the vehicle.

The driver, a 49-year-old Slovakian man, was arrested and is in police

custody.

PC Warren Jarvis from Kent Police said: "If it wasn't for the member of the

public contacting us immediately then we could have been dealing with a far

worse situation."

He said police were running a targeted campaign this month. Officers are

stopping and breathalysing any motorist they suspect might be driving while

under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They are also carrying out extra spot checks.
